Riverwood Community Centre

January 30, 2020 By Sonja

Riverwood Community Centre was established in 1974 in the southern suburbs of Sydney by a group called the ‘Voices of Riverwood’ as a small neighbourhood centre.

Today Riverwood Community Centre is a thriving organisation and one of the largest community centres in the broader Canterbury-Bankstown area, delivering a comprehensive range of community services and valuable programs.

The brief

We were engaged to work on the Riverwood Community Centre 2018-19 and 2019-20 annual reports. Our job was to work on content strategy and help with copywriting and copyediting, as well as the visual design of the report and infographics.

The 2018-19 brief was to take the existing Riverwood Community Centre branding to the next level with a clean, beautiful and professional report that was a little less “busy” than previous reports and focused more on the use of infographics to display participation and engagement data. We utilised the vibrant brand colours across the different sections of the report and created a new layout to better incorporate the text-heavy content versus the visual elements.

The 2019-20 brief was to continue to update the look and feel of the centre’s branding while incorporating more high-quality photography and unique shapes to vary the design from last year.

How is this ethical?

Riverwood Community Centre has been at the heart of their local community for 46 years, providing a broad range services and programs for individuals, families and community groups in a caring and inclusive environment.

The centre has a passionate team of skilled staff and more than one hundred dedicated volunteers, including a host of bi-lingual staff speaking English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic and Greek to further accommodate the needs of their diverse and vibrant community.

“We encourage, empower and support our local community, we respect and celebrate our rich cultural diversity, embrace our volunteers and encourage participation, connection and inclusion within our community.”

Our sustainability strategy

Our sustainability strategy was to keep the content limited to as few pages as possible (without cluttering the document) in an effort to reduce the printed pages. We also planted trees with our trusted suppliers (Fifteen Trees) to offset the the design and printing of the report.
